My Story
As a young woman, I was an avid reader of romance novels. Reading was an escape for me because it allowed me to focus on a different reality and not have to live in my own. Getting lost in the stories of others inspired me to create stories of my own. I started by writing poems based on experiences from my life. By the time I was in my 30s I decided to try my hand at writing short stories. My passion for writing led me to pursue my bachelor's degree in English at the University of Baltimore where I helped produce and publish the campus magazine.
Although my original track was fiction writing, my first published work is a memoir which focuses on my life growing up in Baltimore city in an abusive household and being raised by a mother who struggled with drug addiction. I wanted to tell my story because I feel it is one that readers can relate to and see themselves in. I was honored with the 2025 Emergent Voice Award from Honey House Press. I am currently living in Essex, Maryland.
